GC spent a wonderful day with the beautiful and multi-talented Barbara Moore. She talks candidly about Glamourcon, modeling, Playboy, Ballroom Dancing and . . . Opera?
Win This Cool Item GC: Hi Barbara! It's so great to see you again. We're excited that you'll be at Glamourcon in Chicago.
Barbara: I'm looking forward to being there with you and all the fans.

GC: So tell us a little Barbara history. Where are you from?
Barbara: I am from Seattle Washington, but up in the country, about 45 minutes north of Seattle in Snohomish County. I went to Monroe High School. It was really a country school and, for a city girl, it was really hard to grow up like that. I always wanted to get out of there. I really yearned for the big city all my life. All of my girlfriends had horses, so I learned how at a young age to ride really well. I even showed some horses when I was young and I really met some of the best friends of my life there. So I don't regret it, but I am really where I want to be right now... Beverly Hills.

My dad took us on a vacation when I was twelve years old and one of our stops was Beverly Hills. We walked around and I said I want to live here when I grow up. I have been here for ten years now. I spent 6 years traveling around the world as a spokesperson for Playboy as a Playmate. It was one of the best things I have ever done in my life. People ask me, "Has playboy ever hurt you?" Not at all! It has opened so many doors for me. I've seen a lot of places I would have probably never gone to. I traveled to Moscow, Taipei, Tokyo, Santiago, London, all thourgh Canada, Hawaii, Jamaica, Barbados, France and most of the UNited States. The experience I got from it has made me grow as a person, but nothing as much as what I am doing now.

GC: We'll find out about your current projects a little later in the interview. Right now I want to know how did you get hooked up with Glamourcon?
Barbara: Some of my pretty girlfriends were going to Glamourcon. I am always leery about doing anything until I have seen it so I thought I would go check it out first. I was just wearing jeans and a turtleneck walking through and people were just coming up to me handing me money ... handing me money! And I thought, “Okay. I'm setting a table at the next one!” It was great. So ever since then, I have been attending the Glamourcons. I have my special... Bob always knows I have to have my special wall table.

Glamourcon is really interesting. Even if you're going through a slow period during the day, it doesn't matter because you can make contacts. You can meet a lot of photographers as well as artists. This so great because I love to be painted. Such artists as Olivia, Dave Nestler, and Dennis Mukai have painted me. So Glamourcon is a good tool for all of that business that a model needs

GC: What do you like about Glamourcon, what keeps you coming back?
Barbara: One thing I like? Well, I think it boosts your ego because it's a place that you go where people come to see especially you. You advertise our names on the Internet and on the Glamourcon website. A lot of people come up to me and say I came here just to see you and that makes me feel good. I would say that the interaction with the fans - that's what I love the most.

GC: Do you have any advice for models regarding Glamourcon?
Barbara: I would tell her to just remember that it is an appearance and it's not something you should take casually. I think it's very important to dress the part. It's called Glamourcon for a reason. It's about glamour. Wear a dress or a nice suit. Do your makeup, do your hair. Don't just come plain with no makeup. When you are appearing somewhere people are coming from a long way to meet you. I think it's important that your table isn't scattered. I get a lot of compliments on how my table is organized. Be creative and do some kind of backdrop. You can use an easel. It's really all you need.

GC: How did you get the Playmate gig? And how was/is the experience?
Barbara: When I graduated from high school, I was seventeen and I got a job as a flight attendant. Because, like I was telling you, I wanted to get out of the small town. So I got a job as flight attendant. It was perfect! They sasked me... "Where do you want to live? " I said I don't care, any city, just somewhere else. Can you believe it, I ended up in Nashville Tennessee. I didn't have one relative there. I didn't know anybody. I didn't even own a car and I moved there. A lot my friends just couldn't believe that I was doing that - I guess that's the way I am. So I moved there and I started modeling.

I was doing the flight attendant job, but I got with a modeling agency as well, and I was in almost every country music video you can imagine, because that's what you do there when you're a model. Well, I was a pretty modest at 18, 19, 20, and at 21, I was still modest but starting to become a woman and really starting to know myself. I don't think I would have been ready for Playboy at 18, like some girls are, but I got some experience with people working in modeling and I was ready to move to a bigger city because Nashville was really still not big enough for me. And that's when I personally called up Playboy.

There is not one other playmate from Nashville Tennessee, as it is the bible belt. The photographers tell me that when they are going there to Vanderbilt to seek out the college girls, the girls always back out. They're always worried about their parents, so I'm still the only one from Nashville to become a Playmate. I called them up because I saw Playboy magazine at my Dad's house - he lived in Seattle and was divorced. I was over there every other weekend and he was very open about that kind of thing. He left the Playboy magazines around and I always flipped through them. I hoped I would grow up to look like that someday. I had my favorite Playmates although I can't really remember who they are now. I remember looking through playboy and always in the back of my mind I was thinking that maybe someday I could do that. That day came when I was 24. I called them up and they said to send in pictures.

I went down to Miami because I knew a photographer there and he took my very first nude pictures. I didn't want any photographers taking nude pictures of me in Nashville because I was so afraid that they would get out. So I went all the way to Miami and we shot for a couple of days and he sent those in and Playboy called me. Two weeks later I was there in the Playboy Mansion meeting Hugh Hefner, and shooting my gatefold. At that time, I think it's still the same, you didn't know if you were going to make Playmate until Hef okayd your centerfold. You have to shoot it all week long, keeping your fingers crossed. It was really one of those tedious things. You've never tried so hard to be perfect than that shoot. So, it worked, they had me come back, I shot all the small camera, my Playmate video and all my promotional shots. I was a Playmate.

Playboy actually held my layout for 8 months, because the editor said she wanted to save me for a holiday issue. So I was the Christmas issue, which was great. It sells a couple more million copies in America than usual, so you get even more promotion, plus not only that, it comes out in November, so all of the companies across the United States want to hire the December Playmate for their Christmas parties so I was just doing tons of promotions. I did really well at the promotions so the foreign department at Playboy hired me for all of those special assignments that I was telling you about earlier in all of those other countries. It was wonderful ... just a wonderful experience!

GC: Let us in on the Ballroom Dancing story.
Barbara: In my life, there have been three things I have always wanted to do . I have always wanted to be a model. I have always wanted to act. And I have always wanted to be a dancer. I felt like I was born to dance. It was burning inside my heart and my desire to dance was just so strong all my life even as a little girl. My mother married a man who was a very strict Southern Baptist and dancing and rock music were absolutely forbidden. When they would leave the house my brother and I would put together dance routines and he used to call me the solid gold dancer because, you know, people saw it in me at a young age.

They did let me go to dances when I was young, until they saw me at a dance. They came to be chaperones. They came to a dance when I was twelve, in seventh grade, and I was just dancing up a storm - like sexy, wild! I was the best dancer in junior high. They said no more dances! I never got to go to another dance for my whole entire life. They tricked me, so, of course I snuck to some dances with girlfriends. Their parents felt sorry for me. They would let me spend the night for the weekend and I would go to the dances still. So that was awful. I mean the most burning desire I had, and I couldn't do it. So after I toured with Playboy, I thought, this is the time. I have got to step in to that dance studio.

Five years ago I walked into a dance studio and they asked me, "What do you want to do?" I said, "I don't know, what is there?" So we started with the Cha Cha, the Latin dances, the mambo and I heard about these competitions. I went to check one out. I said to myself, this is what I want to do. So, three months later I was on the competition floor. I mean you could hardly do a twirl at three months, really. It's hard dancing technically. Three months is one thing when you're out there just dancing on a dance floor, but when you're really doing some steps and you're using that technique, it's not easy. I announced to everyone thtatm y goal is to become the Pro-Am United States Ballroom Champion. Everyone was telling me that it would not be easy as easy as I might think. I knew it wouldn't be easy, so I started practicing five days a week, two hours a day. Three years and eight months later I became the United States Pro-Am Ballrrom Champion in Standard. I've done four different styles and I'm accomplished in all four styles. Now I have just narrowed it down to one because really to be the best at something you have to focus on one thing. After I got with this Russian instructor, he really took me to the top in a short time.

GC: Are you still interested in acting?
Barbara: It seems like every part I would go for, I would get. They wanted a Playmate for all that stuff, like the first job I did. It was for Married With Children in front of two live audiences. That was cool. That was wonderful. I did a few episodes of Baywatch and Baywatch Nights. I did Sex In The City up in the Mansion. It just seemed like there were a lot of opportunities at the time. If you want to take acting to the next level you really have to be determined and dedicated to it. You have to study - being a Playmate is not going to help you there. I wasn't sure I liked it so much to really work on it that much. What I really like is the dancing. I love the arts - acting, dancing and photography. I think is all really artistic and a lot of people say. "Well, you know, how do you feel about posing nude?’ Some people just cant believe that we could actually do that, but they've been doing this for years. Before cameras, they were painting nude people. What's the difference, right? It's art. A lot of people think that it is pornography but it's not. I'm a Christian. I go to church and I don't want to do pornography. I'm not saying that I think anything bad about those girls who are doing pornography, but I do not want to personally do it.

GC: I've heard about your web site from a lot of fans. Please share a little about it.
Barbara: It's www.barbarasplayhouse.com, soon to be www.BarbaraMoore.net.. Fans get a lot of good stuff. You get a new gallery every week of me, you get three other models a month and you get live chats. I am going to start having a live chat once a month. I keep a really good scrapbook and I keep a digital camera with me at all times. I went and got my tire fixed the other day and I had the mechanics take me to the tire changing station while I pretended to fix the tire and they love that stuff. And you know, cooking in the kitchen, just normal things, and all the things that go with it. Like the diary and pictures with that, what you've done in your daily routine and activities. And a lot of videos too.

GC: Do you have a secret you want to reveal for us?
Barbara: A secret? Oh my goodness. That's a hard question. I guess....I am an exhibitionist. (Ed. Note: This becomes obvious during the photo shoot!)

GC: What's in the future for Barbara Moore?
Barbara: Opera - that's the next thing that I want to pursue. At Christmas time I sing the carols really high, like operetic. So many people have said that I need to pursue that, so I think I am going to. Wouldn't that be fun - to become an opera singer?

The most important thing to me though, besides dancing, is to have a family. A husband and children - and maybe a lot of them because I think there is so much inside of me to give. How wonderful will it be to watch my children grow and then when I'm older I won't be lonely with my family around me. When I have a family I will feel fulfilled as a woman.

GC: We wish you all the best of luck with all you future plans.
